Dr. Midge Ritchie
Dr. Midge’s road to becoming a veterinarian has been a non-traditional journey. Growing up in Ohio, the daughter of an artist, she pursed a bachelor’s degree in fashion design and art history. It wasn’t until she adopted her first Pug, Oliver, after dealing with several personal losses, that she realized her passion was to help animals as well as their owners. She moved to New York City in 2000 and started her journey to veterinary school, attending Columbia University and Hunter College to fulfil her pre-requisites all the while working as a veterinary technician. She attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and completed her clinical year at Texas A & M School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences graduating in 2010. She briefly worked in New York before moving to Canada in 2014. She moved to Bowen Island to reopen Bowen Veterinary Services in 2019 and became co-owner in 2021. As a veterinarian, Dr. Midge has a special interest in wellness and life-long care, internal medicine, pain management, dentistry and soft tissue surgery. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, visiting art museums, golfing and spending time with her son. Dr. Midge lives on Bowen Island and shares her home with her son, Xander, her dogs Dexter, a Pug, and Piper, a rescue pittie mix and her cats.
